West Flanders transport company Bevertrans has moved into a new building. The family business, run by three sisters, has equipped the brand new site with sleeping quarters and sanitary facilities for foreign drivers.
Bevertrans recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with the opening of a brand new site in Zedelgem. To be in line with the European legislation under the Mobility Package, they offer their foreign drivers there ten overnight berths and accompanying sanitary facilities, with parking and washing facilities.
Three subsidiaries
The international transport company Bevertrans was founded in December 1993 by the late Geert Verhegge and Jean-Marie Betsch. The company specialises in tank container transport (chemicals and foodstuffs) and tipper transport.
In 2021, Geert’s daughters – Charlotte, Liselotte and Marlotte – took over the company. It was not a pre-planned scenario that the three sisters would make their entry into the business. “I even once said I would never take that step,” Charlotte told Flows in an earlier interview. Nevertheless, all three made their appearance at Bevertrans drop by drop. In 2006, Liselotte bit the bullet after studying logistics management. She is a financial manager. The only one of the three sisters, she also has a truck driver’s licence. Seven years later, in 2013, youngest sister Marlotte followed in her footsteps. She is operational and commercial manager. Two years ago, Charlotte came on board last. She takes care of human resources management.
Kitchen and shower
In total, the company now has about 70 employees, including 65 drivers. A large number of them stay at the company on weekends. And just for those drivers, the new site was opened last weekend to be in line with the new European directive under the Mobility Package. That states that foreign drivers must be provided with a comfortable resting place with sleeping space outside the truck during the weekend. The newly opened site more than satisfies, as it offers not only sleeping places, but also a kitchen and showers.
Crossing Europe
Bevertrans has been working with DKV Mobility since day one, now for more than 30 years. All trucks are equipped with the DKV Box Europe and have a DKV Card. Liselotte Verhegge is pleased with the many years of cooperation: “As an international transport company, we travel all over Europe and it is very interesting that we can rely on a large acceptance network. We also think the one-stop shop is important. We joined forces with DKV Mobility for their fuel cards right from the start. As soon as the DKV Box Europe was operational, we immediately signed up for it too. After all, that one provides maximum time savings and convenience.”
