Yannick De Spiegeleir yannick.despiegeleir@flows.be

Yannick (°1988) works as a freelance editor for Flows. He has been focusing on news from the transport and logistics sector and the ins and outs of the port of Ghent (North Sea Port) since 2021. After studying communication sciences and business economics (government management) at the University of Ghent, he has been working as a local journalist in the Waas and Dender region for Het Laatste Nieuws since 2012.

Melanie (°1975) delves into the wonderful world of customs, brexit and air freight for Flows. In recent years she has specialised in the fields of justice, HR, management, finance and technology. She also writes for HRmagazine, Trends, Data News and FDmagazine. Melanie also does final editing for Flows.be and Flowsmagazine.

Koen Heinen (°1954) works as a freelance editor for Flows. He previously gained 35 years’ experience as a journalist for the specialist transport newspaper De Lloyd. He focuses mainly on the fields of inland navigation and rail.

After his journalism studies (VUB), Roel (°1970) briefly worked on the quay in Zeebrugge, before joining the press service of the City of Bruges. From 1995 to 1999 he was editor of Krant van West-Vlaanderen at Roularta and from 1999 to 2008 editor-in-chief of the Voka magazine Ondernemers in West-Vlaanderen. After a temporary post as provincial director at the Flemish Agency for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, he returned to journalism full time at the end of 2012. He is an independent freelancer for, among others, Krant van West-Vlaanderen, CFO Magazine, West-Vlaanderen Werkt and the magazine of Voka West-Vlaanderen. Since 2017, he has been writing daily for Flows, mainly about Zeebrugge, Ostend and the Flemish part of North Sea Port.

Philippe (°1986) works as a freelance editor for Flows. Because of his legal background, he mainly writes about legal cases in the transport world, maritime incidents or changing (international) maritime regulations. He is a lawyer at the Antwerp Bar.

Stefan (°1967) published his first articles in Sirene, Hinterland and the Antwerp Sailing List of the Antwerp port community when he was still in school at Sint-Lodewijk (now KdG). There he studied Expedition and won the North Nation Prize in 1987. After several years with the Belgian shipping company CMB Transport, he became a full-time journalist in 1993. His articles appeared in, among others, Nieuwsblad Transport, Cruise & Ferry Info, Fairplay and De Lloyd. In 2014, he became editor-in-chief of the news platform Flows.be. Since 2016, he has been shipping analyst & editor Europe at French consultant Alphaliner. He continues to follow up as correspondent for liner news for Flows.

Jan-Kees Verschuure jan-kees.verschuureflows.be

Jan-Kees (°1972) works as a freelance journalist for Flows, mainly as Netherlands correspondent (including North Sea Port). Jan-Kees specialises in construction and infrastructure and as such works for various trade magazines and organisations. Previously, he was editor of Almere Vandaag (daily newspaper region Amsterdam).

Bart (°1973) works as a permanent editor for Flows. After 27 years in international sales at Japanese digital instrument giant Roland, in recent years he has specialised in streaming, video and drone technology. For Flows, Bart monitors current affairs on technology, digitisation and energy transition.

Julie Desmet julie.desmet@flows.be

Julie (°1988) works as a permanent journalist for Flows. She writes about the many issues in national and international shipping. Julie reported for the news at Antwerp Television and was later a researcher at a series of production houses in Flanders. In her spare time, she published reports on social issues from the Brussels periphery. Investigative journalism is what drives her.

Bart Timperman bart.timperman@flows.be

Bart (°1962) started as a freelance journalist, working for numerous publishers, such as ‘Het Volk’, ‘Het Nieuwsblad’, Radio 2′, ‘Afrit 9’, ‘Steps’, ‘De Zondag’ . He then joined Gazet van Antwerpen (GVA) in 1999 as a journalist, where he was part of the editorial management for many years. From this managerial position at GVA, he also helped launch ‘De Zondag’ as a fully-fledged news paper in 2003. In 2014, he was asked as editor-in-chief to give the regional news channel RTV (Mechelen and Kempen) a thorough makeover. He then worked for several months as project manager for VRT News and Sport. From June 2016, Bart Timperman was editor-in-chief of Flows until he decided to step down as editor-in-chief in May 2023 due to health reasons.

Charlotte started at advertising agencies, then had her own communications company and she has been freelancing for several years. She writes for specialised magazines and is editor-in-chief at Flows. So she checks the journalists’ contributions for content, makes sure they meet their deadlines and so on. Working under time pressure energises her.

Koen (°1983) gained extensive experience in journalism as editor-in-chief at Mediahuis Belgium (Gazet van Antwerpen and Het Nieuwsblad). He then became regional edition planner at Gazet van Antwerpen. In 2012, he moved to the communications department of BMW Group Belux, where he did PR for the brands BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad. Afterwards, as project manager, he became responsible for numerous B2B and B2C events and partnerships for the BMW brand in Belgium and Luxembourg. At ProMedia Belgium, he started as news manager to strengthen the editorial team of Flows and contribute to event content. Since May 2023, Koen Dejaeger has been acting editor-in-chief of Flows.
