After a successful first edition in November 2022, trade magazine Flows is again organising the ‘Container Trends’ event on Thursday 26 October. During this edition, we will take a deep dive into container traffic and zoom in on three themes: greening, digitalisation and inland terminals.
In the afternoon of Thursday 26 October in Hof ter Delft (Antwerp), Flows will once again analyse the state of affairs in the container sector. We will do so through a keynote by senior shipping analyst at AXSMarine (Alphaliner) Stefan Verberckmoes. He will give a presentation on trends in container shipping.
“First, we will talk about the normalisation of the market, as all the positive and negative COVID-19 effects are gone,” Verberckmoes said. “Then we will explain about the record order book and the extent to which it may lead to overcapacity. We also take a look at what carriers did with the monster profits they made during the pandemic. In part, these were invested in greening the fleet: really significant steps are now being taken to switch to alternative fuels. Specifically, we are looking at what that will mean for shippers and ports.”

From this presentation, we distilled three topics that we will discuss with some industry stakeholders: greening, digitalisation and the importance of inland terminals. These topics will be addressed in panel discussions, for which we will have some prominent voices from the sector speaking. Among others, Tom Demolder, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd Benelux, Michel Marstboom, CCO DP World Antwerp, Eddy Wouters, director general of ASV, Jippe van Eijnatten, director of business development Titan Cleanfuels and Dick Gilhuis, CEO Danser take the floor.
Container Trends 2023 is a knowledge-driven event based on current affairs as you can follow in Flows.
