In their study ‘Economic evaluation of alternative technologies to mitigate Sulphur emissions in maritime container transport from both the vessel owner and shipper perspective’, Edwin van Hassel, Thierry Vanelslander, Christa Sys and Seyed Abolfazl Mohseni investigate what three solutions cost the vessel owner: is low-sulphur marine diesel (MDO) the solution, or scrubbers (exhaust gas purification system) or lng after all? Related to this: the chain-cost, or cost impact of these solutions for the entire maritime chain. Because in the search for alternative and cleaner fuels, shipping operators must also take into account the price aspirations of their customers.
