Unsafe 'Lita' off the chain after nine days in Ghent

Last week, many frowned at the news that members of the ACV-Transcom and BTB trade unions brought drinking water to the bulk carrier ‘Lita’ at the Alphonse Sifferdok in Ghent. This happened after dock workers heard that the crew had had to collect rainwater during the voyage from Brazil. The ‘Lita’ is a ship of the German shipping company Blumenthal, against which the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) has been campaigning worldwide for months. On several occasions, unsuitable living and working conditions have already been identified, including in terms of safety. This was the case with the ‘Pegasus’ as recently as the end of May in Ghent .
