Piet Van den Bossche, founder of Sauter Transport, passed away on 22 August 2024 at the respectable age of 86. This was reported by his family. Van den Bossche built his company into one of the most respected forwarding companies in the Antwerp maritime sector.
Piet Van den Bossche was an entrepreneur pur sang. What started as a modest initiative grew under his visionary leadership into one of Antwerp’s most respected freight forwarding companies. Sauter Transport, the company he built from scratch, became a major player in the sector under his leadership. “The steady growth of the company is a testament to his tireless efforts, dedication and business acumen,” said the family.
For Pete, the customer was always central. “He travelled around the world to find tailor-made solutions for his customers, always with the aim of exceeding their expectations. This dedication earned him not only business successes, but also a huge favour factor and appreciation. His ability to build lasting relationships, both personally and professionally, made him an icon in the forwarding world,” he echoes.

But Pete was not only a passionate entrepreneur, he was also a Burgundian at heart. “Known for his love of the good life, he thoroughly enjoyed good food and was a notorious Duvel drinker. His warm personality and zest for life endeared him to all who knew him,” the family said. “Piet Van den Bossche’s impact on the maritime industry and the many lives he touched is undeniable. Although the company has now been acquired, his legacy will live on in the hearts of everyone he inspired. Rest in peace, Pete. You have left an indelible impression that will always be cherished.”
Piet Van den Bossche’s funeral will take place on Saturday 31 August at 11am at Peeraer Funeral Home on Turnhoutsebaan 444 in Wijnegem. The editors of Flows offer their deepest condolences to family, friends and colleagues.
