For almost two decades, Jacques D’havé (66) was the man in charge of the Pilotage and Flemish Maritime Administration. Invariably, he remained the discreet top official, even during the infamous pilotage strikes. D’havé became so much the figurehead of the Flemish maritime world that you would almost forget that he had led a fascinating life before that. And retired? Sitting still he does not. He is now the driving force behind Apostolatus Maris. It is at that non-profit organisation on the Italiëlei in Antwerp that he tells us about his life.
