After a hot summer, let’s refresh our memories. In the spring, Flemish minister Ben Weyts surprised friend and foe alike by coming up with a ninth alternative for extra container capacity in Antwerp out of the blue. In that plan, Doel disappeared and the extra capacity was spread over several locations, including a Saeftinghedok with that turning basin. Weyts did not take kindly to this ‘swerve’. Quite a few partners from the prior consultation felt insulted. They were already heading for lawyers. The shipowners and academic Notteboom also reacted with little enthusiasm. So nobody was really happy.
