The situation with an overheated tank container that has been causing problems at the MPET container terminal at Quay 1742 since Wednesday is also affecting rail freight traffic to and from the quay in question. Truck traffic to 1742 and work on the front quay may have resumed, but rail operations there are still down for at least the whole weekend. On Monday morning, the tracks should be operational again. Shipping company MSC reports a partial resumption of rail operations from 6am on Monday morning. Responsibility for demurrage and other costs is rejected by the shipping company. Who can ultimately be held responsible for the delay is the subject of a discussion that is only now beginning. “We will hold the causer of the incident responsible,” says CEO of MPET Harold Kunst. “What is important is that the health of the people at the terminal was safeguarded.”
