Port alderman Annick De Ridder’s announcement caused unrest about the future of the Waterbus and also provoked a reaction from the Doel 2020 action group. The latter had just called for an additional stop in Doel. “Just when the region around Antwerp is becoming increasingly congested, the Port Authority announces that it can no longer or does not want to bear the costs,” says the action group. It refers to the impact of port freight traffic on mobility in and around Antwerp and the fact that the community has to pay for the consequences.
