The least you can say about the search for additional container capacity in Antwerp (ECA) is that the Flemish government does not want to rush into making a choice overnight. Earlier this month, the research results of the integrated study (S-MER, S-MKBA, External Safety, Nautics and Operationality) were presented, using the eight alternatives already unveiled in March 2017, the paper was then explained by project leader Freddy Aerts. Tomorrow, a joint stakeholders’ meeting will take place on the basis of that detailed information. There, all stakeholders, ranging from Flemish and federal administrations, to port companies, residents’ platforms and even churchwardens – some 420 people in all – will be able to put forward their views once again. If it turns out that further research or consultation is needed at further stages of the decision-making process, the actors’ consultation will also be closely involved.
