The Port Day North Rhine-Westphalia organised by the Antwerp Port Authority on Wednesday may be called a success. More than two hundred participants, Antwerp officials and business leaders as well as German entrepreneurs and port representatives, blew together in Neuss for a symposium. It was about the links between the port of Antwerp and the German area, which is one of the most important links for the hinterland traffic of the port of Antwerp. The moment was well chosen. A new regional government recently took office in North Rhine-Westphalia, and the yet-to-be-formed new federal government is also expected to have an impact on port development. “Antwerp is a natural partner for the ports of North Rhine-Westphalia,” says Rainer Schäfer, managing director of Neuss Düsseldorfer Häfen. “We form one logistics area on a European level. The connection between Rhine, Scheldt and Albert Canal is very important for the industry here.”
