Maintenance works are taking place in the Liefkenshoek tunnel on Thursday night 31 August and Friday night 1 September. The Liefkenshoek tunnel will be closed in one direction each time between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.
During the first night, on Thursday 31 August, the tunnel will be closed in the direction of Ghent. Consequently, no traffic will be possible on the R2 between the Frans Tijsman Tunnel and the Beaver Tunnel in the direction of Ghent. The R2 in the direction of Ghent will be closed at complex [12] Lillo. Traffic will divert via the A12-North, the R1 and the Kennedy Tunnel.
Kennedy tunnel
As no dangerous goods transport is allowed in the Kennedy Tunnel, ADR transport from the R1 will be diverted via the A12-South in the direction of Brussels, the N16 trunk road (Temsebrug) and the E17 to Ghent.
Direction of the Netherlands
During the second night, the tunnel will be closed in the direction of the Netherlands. No traffic will be possible between the Beveren and Frans Tijsman Tunnel in the direction of the Netherlands. The R2 in the direction of the Netherlands will be closed at complex [11] Waaslandhaven-Noord. Traffic will divert via the E34 towards Antwerp, the R1 and the Kennedy Tunnel.
Because of the same ban in the Kennedy Tunnel for the transport of dangerous goods, ADR transport from the R1 will be diverted via the E17 towards Ghent, the N16 regional road (Temsebrug), the A12-Zuid towards Antwerp and the R1.
