Zeebrugge had an overall good year in terms of figures. The coastal port recorded solid growth in the ro-ro sector and, despite a difficult second half year, even managed to achieve a plus in container volumes at the end of the year, although this will mainly be due to shortsea. Had the ‘smaller’ trades – dry and liquid bulk, conventional general cargo and breakbulk – not given up to a greater or lesser extent and simply stayed at their level of last year, Zeebrugge could have ended up with a transhipment increase of some 2%.
