Infrabel: 'Antigoont tunnel reopened on 17 February'

The impact of the accident in the Liefkenshoek rail tunnel (also known as the Antigoont tunnel) should be cleared by 17 February, confirms spokesman Frédéric Petit of infrastructure manager Infrabel. The heavy damage and the location of the accident – right at the entrance to the tunnel and on one of the busiest freight rail routes in the port – initially suggested the worst in terms of impact on freight rail traffic in the port of Antwerp. The diversions via the Kennedy Tunnel and the exceptional reopening of the Lillo Bridge, among others, mitigated those effects.
