Identification system mandatory throughout North Sea Port port area

Until recently, the requirement for AIS for inland vessels only applied in Flushing and Ghent. By making AIS mandatory in Terneuzen as well, the movements of inland vessels can be traced throughout the entire cross-border port area. This is important not only for ships in transit, but also for ships moored at the quay. This facilitates traffic management and increases safety in the area. The AIS signal is also important for interaction between inland vessels. In total, this involves some 50,000 inland vessels a year in the North Sea Port area.
