The solar mirror park at ADPO (Antwerp Distribution and Products Operations) was solemnly inaugurated this Wednesday morning. The project is supported by the Flemish government, among others. Concentrated Solar Thermal energy (CST) is the key word: an innovative technology in which sunlight is concentrated via parabolic mirrors, also called solar parabolas, and converted directly into heat. This allows temperatures to reach 400°C, allowing the high-quality heat to be used in industrial processes. The technology produces three times more energy per installed square metre than a solar panel installation. Moreover, that heat can be stored in insulated vessels, making it usable even at night. The technology is a completely green alternative to industrial heat requirements and can therefore make a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions.
