Use of digital waybill gaining momentum

Digitising a waybill was made possible in 2008 through a protocol added to the CMR Convention. Meanwhile, Portugal is the 23rd country to sign the protocol. Ratification is very slow, partly because the signatory countries are committed to accepting digital CMRs from the other countries on their territory without question. “What is missing in the convention is the guarantee that the digital waybill is a unique copy, correctly archived and contains reliable information. That is why Belgium was hesitant to ratify the protocol,” explains Sofie Brutsaert. As an advisor on Mobility and Sustainable Development at the FEB (Federation of Enterprises in Belgium), she is closely involved in the Belgian e-CMR project.
