Battle between toll booths erupts in Belgium

The European Electronic Toll System (EETS) regulation stipulates that there should no longer be any monopolies for toll systems in member states. As with mobile phone ‘roaming’, a truck must be able to drive in any Member State with the same on-board unit (obu) and subscription. Belgium is the first country to fully implement the EETS rules for the first time. Besides the kilometre charge operator – Satellic – other service providers are allowed to offer their obu and services, provided they are accredited. This will happen after intensive testing. At the start of the kilometre charge, only Axxès had gone all the way through the process.
