Shipping companies see only Saeftinghedok in place

In an opinion piece, the Antwerp Shipping Association (ASV) states unequivocally that without the Saefthingedok, the port will be relegated to a second-class port. “All shipping companies are on the same wavelength. In the short term, the other alternatives can ensure some extra capacity left and right. In the longer term, we must have a deep-sea quay to bring the big ships to Antwerp. Why else did we deepen the Scheldt? For reasons of nature, we cannot ignore the vision of the port customers,” says Philippe Oyen, chairman of the ASV.
