Higher Maritime School third in solar boat race Monaco
The fourth participation in the Monaco Solar Boat Challenge has immediately become the most successful for the team from the Hogere Zeevaartschool. The team of teachers Willem Maes, Stefan Bueken, Marc Sterkens, Jos Noteboom and Filip Van Gutte and students Brecht Ketelers and Siemon Boits clinched third place in the final ranking. The Solar & Electric Boat Challenge ran from 13 to 15 July and included an endurance race, in which the Antwerpers finished a handsome second, and a slalom race in which they narrowly finished third. In the speed race (which did not count towards the final ranking), the HZS finished fifth with a maximum speed of 21.6 km/h. The overall victory was for the Dutch NHL team, but that does not alter the fact that the Maritime School delegation can return home with a satisfied feeling. Monaco is the date of the year in the pioneering world of solar boat racing.
