H.Essers invests in tank terminal and new warehouse in Wilrijk
The investment is partly for the new flow of MDI, a main ingredient for the production of insulation boards for the construction industry. From 22 August, the first containers are expected to arrive from the port of Antwerp from Saudi Arabia. A monthly flow of two hundred 20′ and 40′ containers is involved. “The sea containers contain packed goods in drums or on pallets. The MDI is stored directly in our warehouse. We also collaborate with Vopak, which invested in a new tank facility and an extension of its quay wall specifically for unloading MDI ships. From those ships, MDI is pumped over into storage tanks. We organise a shuttle with dedicated ISO tanks with a capacity of 23,000 litres between Vopak and our site in Wilrijk. There, the MDI is pumped over from the ISO tanks into IBC drums,” explains Joris Gielen, H.Essers’ operations manager. The Wilrijk site serves as a European distribution centre.
